That GOOD GOOD Music: Esperanza Spalding

This morning, while listening to my Esperanza Spalding playlist, I realized that in the 2 years I've been running this blog, I have never discussed her and her gorgeous music! Although I am sure the vast majority of you are already very familiar with Miss Spalding, it is simply unacceptable that her countenance has not graced this blog. Especially since the woman is a living, breathing definition of everything that I love about music. Esperanza is a genuinely talented individual. She can sing. That seems like such a simple thing to say, but in the age of music that we live in today, being able to sing is no longer a requirement for many musicians. That is why I appreciate artists who sound just as good, if not better, live as they do on their recorded tracks. In addition to her gorgeous voice, Esperanza has also been blessed with the ability to play multiple instruments (most notably, the bass). As a fellow string instrument player, I can attest to how difficult it is to play any string instrument, in and of itself. The fact that she is able to do this while singing so beautifully never ceases to amaze me.

Ten years from now, most of what you hear on the radio will be absolutely irrelevant. Esperanza Spalding’s music, however, will have just as much depth and relevance as it does today.

Here are just a few of my favorite tracks from Esperanza. Enjoy!

Michael "Dos" Tousana

While perusing through one of my new favorite photography tumblrs, Laarte by Law Agyei, I came across photos of an incredible artist by the name of Michael "Dos" Tousana.

Interestingly enough, I had come across Michael’s work about 2 years ago via tumblr, but had lost his site link in the ocean of bookmarks currently on my laptop (I’m a bookmarking fiend). Seeing Michael’s artwork again after such a long time was a beautiful feeling and one I knew I needed to share with all of you. I am so taken by the uninhibited nature of his pieces; everything about them is so vibrant and daring. I feel such a deep, almost impossible soulfulness when I look upon the colors and patterns.
