Songs I Currently Have On Repeat

For those of you who may not know, I’ve been tumblin’ my little heart out for the past few months at goodgoodmusic.tumblr.com: the official music tumblr of That GOOD GOOD Blog. I’m so pleased about the warm reception that this music microblog has been getting; I definitely was not expecting to have hundreds of followers and thousands of hits so quickly! Hopefully all of you who have visited GOODGOODmusic have found at least one song that caught your attention. I consider myself extremely lucky to have platforms, such as GOODGOODmusic & this blog, to express my interests and to share the wonderful things of this world that I feel do not receive the attention they deserve.  I feel especially strongly about this as it pertains to music.  I know I sound like a broken record when I say this, but there are so many immensely talented musicians who get overlooked nowadays.  However, thanks to sites such as Tumblr which make music sharing so simple, I think people are becoming more and more exposed to/aware of good music. The past few months have been an especially good time for music (in my humble opinion); quite a few of the artists I really enjoy have recently released new albums and singles. Below are a few of my favorite new(ish) songs at the moment. Enjoy!

Getting There by Flying Lotus feat. Niki Randa  |  Until The Quiet Comes by Flying Lotus
One of my all-time favorite producers, Flying Lotus, dropped his fourth album entitled Until the Quiet Comes early this month. The album boasts of 18 ethereal pieces, including collaborations with Erykah Badu, Thom Yorke, Niki Randa, and Laura Darlington. The soundscapes that FlyLo managed to create are nothing short of gorgeous. If you enjoy instrumentals, I highly recommend this album.

This is one of the songs I’ve been playing the most lately. I really admire Chaz Bundick’s production skills; the multiple layers of sound in the beat of this track set an exuberant yet controlled tone for the song. This, in conjunction with his simple yet sufficient singing, truly make for a brilliant piece. Keep an eye out for his new upcoming album, Anything In Return, which drops January 22, 2013.

The Robert Glasper Experiment is at it again! For those of you who enjoyed the album Black Radio, you will definitely appreciate the reworking of some tracks from the album on Black Radio Recovered. This remix EP features remixes of 6 songs, including a personal favorite of mine: Little Dragon’s “Twice”. I rarely appreciate remixes, especially when the original songs themselves are so incredible. However, I feel that Robert Glasper & co. absolutely killed it on just about every track.

Blu & Exile’s latest album, Give Me My Flowers While I Can Smell Them, is actually a mastered version of the EP they released last year with the same name. I remember listening to the EP and thinking about how beautiful the songs were, but I couldn’t help but feel that they sounded unfinished. Needless to say, I was very happy when the mastered version was released. Although I don’t find this album to be as strong as Blu & Exile’s previous album, Below the Heavens, it offers the great production and heartfelt lyricism I have come to expect from this dynamic duo.  The video for the included song, Maybe One Day, recently dropped as well, be sure to check it out by clicking here.

GOODGOODmusic: That GOOD GOOD Blog's Official Music Tumblr

I’m very excited to unveil my latest mini project: GOODGOODmusic.tumblr.com
This tumblr blog will serve as my musical stream of consciousness. I will simply be posting songs that I am currently listening to and, of course, songs from my past that I am still enamored by (I love me some old school music). I've really enjoyed sharing my musical library with you all through That GOOD GOOD Blog already, and I believe that GOODGOODmusic will allow me to share songs more frequently, which is my desire. Not a fan of tumblr? No worries, I will still be doing my usual music posts on this blog too. I’m really excited about this and I hope you all enjoy the songs that I will be posting! I plan on updating it very often (everyday if time allows me to). Here are a few of the songs you can currently find on GOODGOODmusic:

Do you have a tumblr? If so, please feel free to leave your link in a comment! I’d love to follow you!

Songs I Currently Have On Repeat

Here are some of the songs that have been on heavy repeat for me lately. Some are fairly new, some are a bit old. Just click on the little play buttons and/or the songs and they will play in the little media player located in the bottom left corner of your screen. If the songs do not play, just refresh your screen and try again.

Lonely Town by fLako feat. Dirg Gerner
I recently came across this amazing London-based producer by the name of fLako. It was love at first listen, to say the least. The above song really resonated with me; I love the mellow beat and the simple yet poignant lyrics. Another song from fLako that really captured my attention is his remix of Ez Up, originally by Slum Village. His take on the song is too smooth!

Ain't That Peculiar (Remix) by Oddisee
Oddisee is amazing, ‘tis all. I love what he did with this Marvin Gaye classic. Make sure you check out his mixtape, Odd Renditions, which consists of Oddisee’s remixes of Bon Iver’s “Paralyzed”, Metronomy’s “The Gold Is Mine” and K-Os's “Man I Use To Be”.

Deeper by THEESatisfaction
I absolutely LOVE this duo! THEESatisfaction’s music is absolutely gorgeous; it caresses the soul. Their sound is so smooth and has a great deal of depth. My mind can’t help but to travel back to Floetry when I listen to these 2, and that is definitely not a bad thing. You can listen to THEESatisfaction’s entire album, Awe Naturale, by clicking here.

Patiently, We Bloom by Diggs Duke
Diggs Duke is such a fantastic artist in every sense of the word. This song is a perfect example of his wide range of talents; all of the vocals and instruments in the track were performed by him.

A Yellow Man

I’m sure you all remember Chioma Wodu, a lovely young lady that I featured some time ago. In her ‘She’s Got That Good Good’ feature, I included the introductory video to the group she is a part of called A Yellow Man.

After that post went up, I received e-mails from several of my readers asking where they could find more of A Yellow Man’s music. At the time, the group was still in the process of working on their upcoming EP. However, I am extremely excited to announce that this dynamic trio has now graced us with 2 amazing videos for 2 absolutely incredible songs entitled My Lyrics Are Alive and 3000 Miles Of Youth. The first track, My Lyrics Are Alive, is phenomenal; the profound lyrics and production are spot on as well as the cinematography (not to mention the awesome clothes that these 3 are rocking in this video). 3000 Miles Of Youth is an equally amazing song with an extremely well thought out video that complements the depth of the track so seamlessly. Much respect goes to Paul Akinrinlola, the brilliant director of both of these videos. I really love the hopeful message A Yellow Man chose to convey in their music. It is absolutely refreshing to listen to music that sounds dope while having so much substance. Be sure to 'like' their facebook group & to follow them on twitter to keep up with all their new releases!

A Yellow Man, you 3 have most definitely got that good good.

Erykah Badu for Oyster Magazine

I recently came across these beautiful shots of my favorite singer, Erykah Badu, for Oyster Magazine. Nabil Elderkin, an extremely talented director/photographer, is responsible for these brilliant photos. I am especially taken by the first photo; the use of shadow & color is incredible. To read her interview in the magazine, click here

I’ve been listening to Sometimes nonstop, lately. How wonderful is this song?
It's one of those tracks I will never get tired of.

That GOOD GOOD Music: Full Crate X Jesse Boykins III, Moruf, Andreya Triana, & Szjerdene

Soulful crooner Jesse Boykins III recently teamed up with Amsterdam-based composer/sound designer Full Crate to create these 2 beautiful works of art. Both songs beautifully layer smooth, thoughtful love lyrics over electronic beats. In addition, I just had to add another song of Jesse Boykins III’s that has been out for a few months now but I never got around to posting. It’s absolutely lovely, extremely ethereal, and will most likely make you zone out (which makes the title of the song quite appropriate). Please enjoy Zoner by Jesse Boykins III.

One of my favorite lyricists, Moruf, recently released a beautiful track entitled Jasmine complete with an incredible video. I’ve got too much respect for Moruf, he consistently puts out quality music. What more could someone ask for? If you aren’t familiar with this artist, check out the interview I did with him by clicking here.

Andreya Triana is a gem that I came across recently (such a shame I got hip to her so late, she’s been making really great music for years!) I absolutely love her voice. Her album Lost Where I Belong is definitely worth a few minutes of your time so make sure you look it up! Please enjoy 2 of my favorite tracks from her: The Keeper (by a producer named Bonobo, Andreya is the featured singer) & Lost Where I Belong

UK-based singer Szjerdene released an EP entitled Patchwork a few weeks ago. The EP houses 4 beautifully written & sung tracks which perfectly display Szjerdene’s talents; her voice is nothing short of amazing. I love the raspiness of it. My 2 favorite tracks can be found beneath the photo of her and you can click here to listen to the other 2.

That GOOD GOOD Around the Web

The lookbook for Gold Coast Trading’s Spring/Summer 2012 collection entitled 'Trade Winds' is absolutely stunning. I am in love with every single piece. If you aren’t familiar with Gold Coast Trading, click here to read a write-up I did on the brand a little while back.

This song has been on heavy, heavy repeat for me today. My hip-hop culture professor played this video in my class on Tuesday and I couldn’t believe not only what I was hearing, but also what I was seeing. The cinematography of this video is simply excellent and goes so nicely with the profound lyrics and amazing beat of this song. This young man is seriously talented, check out more of his music here. If you're feeling this song, make sure you share it with your peoples!
Kendall Elijah, you are officially on my radar.

Lianne La Havas is a brilliant singer from the UK. I’ve been following her music since I heard her song No Room For Doubt late last year. There is too much to love about this girl, from her lovely voice, to her great sense of style, and the overall aesthetic of her music videos. She is definitely someone to watch out for. Check out her songs Lost & Found and Forget

That GOOD GOOD Music: Georgia Anne Muldrow & Madlib, Quadron, Theophilus London, and Robert Glasper Experiment's 'Black Radio'

The ridiculously talented Georgia Anne Muldrow has paired up with my favorite producer, Madlib, for her latest album entitled Seeds which will be released March 27. If the album sounds anything like their recently released track “Husfriend”, our ears will be in for a real treat. Not hip to Miss Muldrow? Listen to my 2 favorite songs by her here & here

A beautiful video for a beautiful song- enjoy “Day” by Danish duo Quadron. Not hip to Coco & Robin? Listen to a few of my favorite songs by them here, here, & here.

Theophilus London & A$AP Rocky announced a couple of months that they were working on a song together entitled “Big Spender”. I haven’t been able to hear their version but I must say, I’m in love with Theophilus London’s take on the song which will be on his upcoming EP Lovers Holiday II: Rose Island. (I believe he recorded this on the radio in Australia so that's why the audio sounds a little rough.)

This album has been on heavy, heavy repeat on my iPod for the past month. The songs are just too smooth for words. If you love jazz, hip-hop, soul, and R&B, you will definitely appreciate this. Click here & here to listen to my 2 favorite songs.

I Miss The Fugees

The Caribbean influence, L Boogie’s tantalizing flows & stunning voice, the deep thoughts behind each and every word, the intention behind each and every beat...Fugees was such a brilliant group. I really miss them.
