She's Got That Good Good: Natasha Ndlovu

I hope you all have been enjoying this He/She's Got That Good Good series of style features thus far! This weeks GOOD GOOD-er is one of my favorite fellow bloggers! She was born in Zimbabwe (Yay, I love Africans!). She then moved to South Africa when she was 10 where she lived for a couple of years. Then she moved to Canada and is now living in England. This worldly woman probably knows the globe like the back of her hand and she has a sense of style that could work in any country so allow me to introduce..

Natasha Ndlovu from England

What do you do?
I work as a fashion model, but I also work in the Russian department at Sotheby's which coincides with my studies of the Russian language.
What 3 words would you use to describe your style?
Classic, tailored, simple
Where are your favorite places to shop?
Selfridges and Liberty's
What is one article of clothing you could not live without?
A leather jacket. Speaking of which, I need a new one. LOL
The 3 words that Natasha used to describe her style are the exact three words that come to mind for me as well. Her style is so effortlessly chic and undeniably classic. I love the way she sticks to a few pieces in her outfits, when people pile on clothing on top of clothing on top of more clothing the outfit becomes cluttered and busy. Keep it simple and you can never go wrong and Natasha executes simplicity perfectly. Thank you Natasha, you’ve got that GOOD GOOD.

Just A Few Recent Purchases...

Here are just a few items that I have purchased recently. I decided to add a couple non-thrift items to the mix as well. Even though the first 2 shoes were not purchased at thrift stores, I think I still got great deals on them both! I am an extremely frugal person when it comes to shopping, but I only buy items that look good. If it is dirt cheap but doesn’t look good, I won’t buy it and I think that is a very important rule to live by. Often we buy things just because they are cheap and we end up not wearing them anyways. You will save more money by not buying the item at all than by buying it because the price was low and just letting it hang in your closet!

Non-Thrift Items:

These black patent leather oxfords are currently my favorite pair of shoes in my entire closet. Definitely the best $1o.oo I’ve ever spent. No I did not make a typo, were only $1o.oo and they were originally $50.00!! I bought them at Kohl’s which was pleasantly surprising because I don’t usually find much there but that is why I always check the clearance rack anywhere I go! Here is how they look from the side..

I love the color of these suede pumps. They are Steve Madden but I only spent $21.oo on them! Well, this was with my employee discount (I work at Famous Footwear lol). They were $3o.oo but I got them for 3o% off.

Thrift Items:

Gotta love animal print! This blouse has a nice baggy fit, I really like it. The cost was $3.5o.

The cropped top cost $3.5o

I was so pleased when I found this floral blazer and at just $4.oo it was too nice for me to pass up! Here is a close up of the floral print..

$4.oo

This sweater top was $3.50. Here is a close up of the pattern..

Another pair of vintage earrings. These are clip-ons that don’t hurt my ears :) They cost $1.97.

Amy, Amy, Amy

Well, I have been in fashion mode for quite some time because I haven’t done a music post in a minute! So with that being said, I’ve decided to dedicate this post to one of my favorite musicians of all time, Amy WinehouseAs most of us had seen in the past couple years, Amy Winehouse had been going through a particularly low point in her personal life. Being the prominent figure that she is, the public watched along as Amy stumbled around London streets with disheveled hair, tattered clothing, bruises and such…it was such a sad sight to see. One of the most disheartening things in the world is when people who have so much talent & so much potential for greatness allow the ills of life to push them off of their path. Life can be so hard, trust me I know, and incidents can occur that may deter us or break us down to the point where we feel we can no longer continue. But I am here to proclaim that you can continue, no matter what goes wrong in your life. Be it that you are suffering from a broken heart, from a lost job, from a damaged friendship, from an illness, from loneliness, from the loss of a loved one, from anything & everything. As long as you still have that fire in your heart, the willpower to withstand whatever else may come your way, and confidence in yourself, you have the power to rise above your situation and press on towards the goals you wish to achieve!

Thankfully, it looks like Amy is beginning to turn her life around. She just completed a 17 piece clothing line with Fred Perry and is looking very healthy in the advertisements. Also, I have read from various sources that she has begun a series of secret performances all around London. Although this is great news, I am still patiently waiting for her to drop another amazing album because, like I said, she is one of my favorite musicians. Her music is superb; it brings me back to the music of those great soul singers such as Roberta Flack, Sarah Vaughan, Billie Holliday, & Aretha Franklin. I cannot get enough of it. I don't think there is one song that she has created that I don't like.

Here are a few of my top favorites…

She's Got That Good Good: Maggie Wanthatham

Hello everyone! First of all, I want to thank you guys for all the love you showed Kadeem Johnson last week, I really appreciate all the positive feedback that his post received! Like I said, Kadeem was the first of many people that I will be featuring on my blog for their commendable sense of style. These features will be posted every Thursday, hopefully, so make sure you stay tuned into that Good Good every week so you don’t miss out! I have been having such a great time looking for these stylish individuals and getting the opportunity to connect with them and find out a little bit about their style. And my search has not been limited to the US, when I said I will be featuring individuals from around the world, I meant it! So please allow me to unveil the second installment of my She/He’s Got That Good Good style features..

Maggie Wanthatham from Sweden

What do you do?
I went to fashion & design high school which I finished this summer.

What 3 words would you use to describe your style?
That's really hard! Black, black, black. I always have something black on me.

Where are your favorite places to shop?
My favorite places to shop are through the internet at the moment. My town’s stores are quite boring. But I can say that my latest buy took place at ww.acne.se.

What is one article of clothing you could not live without?
I cannot answer that, everything? haha

Maggie is the perfect example of how simplicity is key when it comes to classic fashion. Through her photos you can see that she sticks to the basics but uses bold colors and unique shapes to add more drama to her outfits. This is extremely important; I feel that there are many people who think that they need to add so many unnecessary pieces to their outfits in order to look good but the fact of the matter is that less is more! I am a huge fan of people who manage to dress simplistically but look so chic while doing it. Thank you so much Maggie, you've most definitely got that GOOD GOOD.

For Those Who Wear the Conscious Cloud

We live from the head down and not the feet up.
And I'm adorned with the crown that's making this up. And I'm fine under cloud 9 ...

For every girl, boy, woman, or man who has ever been told that their natural hair is not the beautiful, powerful, marvelous, awe-inspiring & worthy crown that it is.

Cloud 9 by Donnie

Happy to be nappy, I'm black and I'm proud
That I have been chosen to wear the conscious cloud. And I'm fine under cloud 9

There is soul in your locks. There is vitality in your curls. There is strength in your coils.
Your hair is the physical manifestation of the power that you possess.
It was handcrafted by the Creator himself; He twisted every lock, molded every curl, and shaped every coil. He took His time to make you look special.

Because this world can be so harsh and give you rocks instead of pillows, you will always have a soft place to lay your head

Because this world told tells you that you aren’t enough, your hair reaches out toward the heavens to compensate for the difference

Because this world can make you cry; when you lower your head in pain as the tears fall, your hair still stands tall with pride

Because this world tells you that you aren’t beautiful, you were given a cumulonimbus of your own that the sky itself envies

You are your hair because your hair is beautiful.
Therefore, you are beautiful too.

(I had been inspired lately by the song Cloud 9 and other things such as the "I Love My Hair" video from Sesame Street and I really needed to write this.)

A Second Look at Alex Folzi

My favorite set of twins have released some stunning photos taken for their brand Alex Folzi. Fela & Fola have certainly outdone themselves, I am in love with these pictures. One can definitely see the vintage inspiration behind these bags in these shots. Here are a few of my favorites..

Nothing compares to bearing witness to greatness in the making. It makes me so excited to see this brand growing & flourishing and to see the roots of their work firmly implanting themselves into the world of fashion. These two are doing such a great job and I can already see that they are going to be a force to be reckoned with. I love it. They’ve got my stamp of approval.

He's Got That Good Good: Kadeem Johnson

Today is my blog’s 3 month birthday! With that being said, of course I needed to do something special today in order to celebrate. So I am very pleased to announce a new set of features that will be on my blog showcasing the personal styles of individuals from around the world. Each feature will include a few photos of the individuals which display their personal style and their responses to a few questions I asked them. I will be very discerning over who will featured; the individuals selected will be those who exhibit those GOOD GOOD qualities. And I am extremely pleased to report that this first individual goes above and beyond my style standards so allow me to introduce you to..

Kadeem Johnson from the Bronx, NY

What do you do?
I'm a college student attending school in NYC and I'm also the head blogger of kjohnlasoul.com

What 3 words would you use to describe your style?
Ethnic, tribal, chill

Where are your favorite places to shop?
Thrift Stores

What is one article of clothing you could not live without?
My Hats!!

Kadeem has such a way with his style, it is truly amazing. Like I’ve told him before, he has the Midas touch when it comes to clothes. It takes someone on top of their style game to make such relaxed looks look so…excellent! His balancing act with colors & the accessories he wears really set him apart from other people. And it is obvious that his style is natural, his look is so effortless yet he still looks brilliant. That is extremely important, when it looks like you are trying too hard, your look falls flat. So embrace your personal style and allow it to take you wherever it may. Thank you so much Kadeem, you have got that GOOD GOOD and then some.

Throwback Joint: The Light by Common

I haven’t posted a throwback in a minute. This song is so beautiful, it takes me to a happier place whenever I hear it. There is just something about the video too, its simplicity & its natural beauty, that allows one to really focus on the words of the song which tell of an unconditional love. You know, that type of love that people dream about for so long until they finally meet that person and once that happens, nothing else even matters. Life is complete and the candle in your heart which was once so dim is now illuminated so brightly by the light.  Enjoy.

There is a light that shines, special for you & me :)

Fall Into Fashion

Fall is finally here (for me at least). I love fall so much because I enjoy fall fashions so much! My closet consists of so many sweaters/cardigans, scarves/snoods, boots, jackets, etc. It’s quite ridiculous actually, I end up wearing sweaters during the summer because I have so many. So since the weather is finally changing, I think it is time to discuss some fall fashion. There are a bunch of trends that will be present during this season such as animal prints, capes, velour, really wide pants, camel, etc, the list goes on and on and on. It is a great idea to incorporate some of these trends into your wardrobe but do not forget to bring your own individual style this season too! Don’t be a photocopy of what you see in magazines and in runways shows, be yourself!

So with that being said, here are a few of the looks that I will be going for this fall…
Really Really Big ScarvesScarves are like books & muffins…the bigger the better! The scarves in the following photos were all knitted by the woman wearing them, Yokoo. I have never seen such amazing scarves in my entire 19 years on this planet and they are so big! Bless her fingers! She is immensely talented at knitting and sells her beautiful creations online, check out her website by clicking here.

Capes/PonchosThese have been dubbed a trend for Fall 2010 and I do love the way they look. They are a nice alternative to your standard trench coat. I don't have one yet but they are on the top of my "to buy" list.

Joggers/Tapered SweatpantsThe joy and comfort of wearing sweatpants and the thrill of looking chic all at once! What more could a girl ask for, especially since I like looking good while being comfortable. And these are really affordable, you can find at a lot of stores ranging from Topshop & H&M to Forever 21 & Charlotte Russe.

Vintage SweatersThese lovely pieces make up quite a chunk of my closet. What I love most about them is their uniqueness. Every single one has different colors and patterns. And they are so easy to wear, just throw them on over a pair of tights, throw one on with some jeans, or throw one on with a dress and you are good to go. They can be found at your local thrift/vintage store (I find the best ones in the mens section).

What will you be rocking this fall?
