Throwback Joint: Cherish The Day by Sade
“You’re ruling the way
that I move.”
I never
realized the degree of power behind that simple statement until recently.
Sometimes we listen to a song so many times over and over and over but it isn’t
until we reach a certain point in our lives that we can fully appreciate just
what the artist is saying. Cherish The
Day has always been one of my favorite songs by Sade, if not my favorite.
The effortless manner in which she was able to tell of this strong, burning
desire she had inside of her is astounding. She did not feel the need to use
verbose and complex love language in order to get her point across, and she
didn’t need to. Those simple 7 words she says in the beginning of this song are
more powerful, to me, than anything I have ever heard in any other love song.
Another line in this song that always sends chills up my spine is “If you were
mine, I wouldn't want to go to heaven”. I can only imagine a love that deep. Sade definitely knows what's good. I also wanted to share this video because this past Sunday marked the 10 year anniversary of September 11th and you can catch quite a couple of glimpses of the World Trade Center in the background.

Throwback Joint: Come Close by Common feat. Mary J. Blige
This is, by far, one of the sweetest songs and music videos ever created; my heart melts literally every time I watch it. As I have mentioned numerous times before, I love Common. He is such a solid musician. I you were paying attention to the news yesterday, you may have heard some of the to-do buzzing around concerning Common’s invitation to a White House poetry event. Faux News even went as far as to call Common a “vile rapper” which, in my opinion, is laughable. That is all I will say concerning that topic. Sit back, relax, enjoy, and reminisce…

Throwback Joint: Got 'til It's Gone by Janet Jackson feat. Q-Tip & Joni Mitchell
Not only is this a great song but the video is absolutely beautiful as well; it’s easily one of my favorite music videos of all time. Everything from the color scheme to the clothing to the cinematography is pure brilliance. The deeper meaning behind this video is brilliant as well. According to Wikipedia, the setting of the video is during the apartheid in South Africa. Although this period in South Africa’s history was a time of great racial tension, segregation, and violence, the people in this video look so happy and free. I find this contrast to be deeply inspiring; it shows that even when times get really hard, you are still able to create your own happiness! Enjoy the video :)

Throwback Joint: This Woman's Work by Maxwell
This is one of my favorite songs to sing in the shower because I know the noise of the water will drown out me attempting (and failing) to hit all those high notes. Please watch, reminisce, and enjoy!

Throwback Joint: Happily Ever After by Case
It’s been a while since I posted a throwback so I thought I’d share this lovely tune with you all today! This song is beautiful, and the video is so nice. It's not everyday that you get a dose of some vintage Beyonce! This song is actually on the top of the playlist I made for my future wedding CD…..yes, I have a playlist of songs on my iPod that I plan on using for my wedding CD, don’t judge me. Well, that isn’t so wrong, I’m sure I’m not the only girl who has one. And if I am, you can bet your bottom dollar that my CD is going to be banging! So to my future husband out there, wherever you are, if you are reading this…you don’t have to worry about the wedding music boo, I got you ;) Enjoy!
And I have the winner of my “Perfect White Tee” Giveaway….Congratulations to Melina! Your hunt for the perfect white tee is over! Make sure you check out her lovely blog by clicking HERE.

Throwback Joint: The Sweetest Thing by Lauryn Hill
Well, it is safe to say that my “Throwback Thursdays” have quickly turned into “Throwback Whenever I Remember days”. But that is okay because better late than never, right? Anyways, the joint that I have for you all is very special to me because it is off of the soundtrack of my favorite movie of all time (Love Jones) and it is sung by my favorite singer of all time. Lauryn Hill’s talent is amazing, her skills are boundless. The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill is literally my favorite album, ever. Her music is just so inspiring. She really bears her entire soul in her lyrics which I respect her for and enjoy because I find that I can relate to a lot of the things that she sings about. Also, I am absolutely in love with her voice. I have heard from a lot of people who attended the Rock the Bells concerts that her voice is not as incredible as it used to be which disappoints the hell out of me…but until I hear her singing with my own 2 ears I will just think of her voice as it used to sound. This song is too amazing for words, please watch, enjoy & reminisce.

Throwback Joint: The Light by Common
I haven’t posted a throwback in a minute. This song is so beautiful, it takes me to a happier place whenever I hear it. There is just something about the video too, its simplicity & its natural beauty, that allows one to really focus on the words of the song which tell of an unconditional love. You know, that type of love that people dream about for so long until they finally meet that person and once that happens, nothing else even matters. Life is complete and the candle in your heart which was once so dim is now illuminated so brightly by the light. Enjoy.
There is a light that shines, special for you & me :)

'I Forgot' Friday: Ms. Fat Booty by Mos Def
I forgot to post a throwback yesterday! So here is the video I would have shared with ya’ll had I not been slacking.
Usually I am the first person to complain about how most rappers only talk about big butts and such but I’m going to give Mos Def a pass because this man is such a good rapper. Only he can turn a song about seeing a girl with a fat booty into a work of art. Mos has such a way with words and he is such a storyteller and if you really listen to the words of the song the story that he is telling is actually quite entertaining. So please watch, enjoy & reminisce.

Throwback Thursday: Girlfriend by Alicia Keys
As promised, here is the second installment of Throwback Thursday. This week I chose the song Girlfriend by Alicia Keys because I miss her older music. In my humble opinion, her newer music just doesn’t do anything for me like her older stuff did. I’m talking about those songs like Butterflyz, If I Was Your Woman/Walk Away, Never Felt This Way, You Don’t Know My Name, A Woman’s Worth, Fallin’, If I Ain’t Got You, etc…I understand that as an artist, one has to grow and one’s music has to evolve to satisfy broader audiences but the fact of the matter is, I only found a small handful of songs listenable off her latest album (I love Un-Thinkable) and DON’T even get me started on the As I Am Album. I mean, it was a solid album, no doubt about that...but I would take Songs in A Minor or The Diary of Alicia Keys over it any day of the week.
And I am not one to indulge into the private lives of celebrities but of course I have heard mad stuff about Alicia Keys and her husband and many of my friends have told me they have lost all respect for her and they refuse to listen to her music. All I have to say is...I don't give a flying piece of poop (excuse my word choice but it is what it is). Now I'm not saying that what she did was right, of course it wasn't, but at the same time it is none of my business so I'm not going to think about it. I'm just gonna try to remember her as she was because her songs about love always felt so real to me so I don't want her mistakes to reflect badly on her music because it was and still is good, even though I'm not crazy about it anymore. She is still doing her thing and still doing well so let me stop talking and ya'll just watch & reminisce.
AND STAY TUNED IN THIS WEEKEND PEOPLE, I HAVE A VERY SPECIAL POST IN THE WORKS FOR SATURDAY!
